5A- IDENTIFYING LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES

Article 1:
 - "Seminole Schools might join JUUL lawsuit, saying vaping causes campus problems"
 - The Seminole county school department believes that the health of their students are on the line and would like to pursuit a lawsuit with the tobacco company in hopes that their students will stop vaping on campus. They will begin putting smoke detectors on campuses starting August to try and combat vaping on campus. Not only is it a terrible habit but students vaping on campus influences others to vape as well as it has become a trend among teens.
-Seminole county school's have the problem. Along with teens who now have nicotine addictions because of the product.

Article 2:
-"Lynx is not the problem-- We are"
 - The lynx bus is one of the most beneficial transportation services here in Florida. Many people depend on the bus to get to work and back home safely for a cheap price. That being said, with so many people relying on this bus, if it were to go out of business this would affect many people. Lynx doesn't have an official funding system. It is basically supported by the people who use it. With their budget being low, many believe there should be some sort of third party funding it so that this can continue to be a service for people who have no other source of transportation.
-People who do not have cars or way of getting places rely on Lynx. They are the ones at risk if this bus service seizes.

Article 3:
-"HOA attempts to solve vulture problem in east orange county neighborhood"
 - A community finds it hard to enjoy the amenities in their neighborhood because of an infestation of disease ridden vultures in their neighborhood. Residents say they cant even enjoy their pool because of the fear of catching something from these birds. They've tried spraying them with water, shooing them around and even laying out decoys in hopes to get rid of them. They've yet to come up with a solution and plan to get the county involved for a helping hand.
-Residents of the timber wood neighborhood are the ones with the issue.

Article 4:
-"Florida lawmakers confronted with prison problems"
-Florida prisons are not spending money on the important things such as education, health and other resources that a human has every right to have. Instead they are funding programs that are not as beneficial as school would be for some. Law makers have visited this topic enough for something to get done about it and they are gradually working to using tax payer money to better benefit those kept in a federal facility.
-People in these facilities are the ones facing the problem.

Article 5:
-"Orlando's international airport fast growing homeless problem"
-Orlando airport has found themselves unwillingly sheltering homeless people around Orlando. They come in seeking air conditioning and shelter and most times are successful as they blend in with the thousands of people coming in and out of the airport daily. Angry homeless people cause a frenzy in the airports with people who are looking to travel and not looking for travel. With so many people around, workers are hesitant to point out a homeless person because they do not want to offend anyone traveling. But this problem also causes people to take their business elsewhere because they do not want to be disturbed by wandering homeless people, sadly.
-The airport and people being harassed are the ones with the issue.

4A-FORMING AN OPPORTUNITY BELIEF

1. I strongly believe debit/credit cards should have tracking devices that are compatible with an app via Bluetooth to make it easier for people to track down their cards without having to cancel/reorder a new one.

2. Many people, especially college students, find themselves misplacing their debit/credit cards on a daily basis. If you're anything like me, you lose your card every girls night out. It is a common problem, no matter how old someone may be. The need for a tracking device installed in cards is insanely high. 2020 holds a generation of irresponsible individuals and everyone would benefit from an app compatible tracking device installed in cards. Instead of having to cancel your card, wait 5-7 days for a new one then re-link your card to all the bills you have to pay, one can simply track the last place they had there card near their phone almost like a key tracker.

3. While this tracking device would benefit many people nationwide, I will be targeting mostly young adults such as college kids who tend to be more irresponsible comparatively.

4. Interview -- I interviewed my sister, who also happens to be a victim of losing her card to every week due to Latin nights at white buffalo.

What is the exact nature of this need?

"I need my card at all times, that's where I keep my money. If i lose my card, i basically starve or live off of venmo for a whole week"

When did you become aware of this need? Do you experience this need all the time or only sometimes?

"I've been wondering why a tracking system hasn't been set up since 8th grade when I first got a card. I think I've ordered 40 cards in my life time. So ya I'd say I experience this need quite often."

How long have you had this need?

"I just said since like 8th grade"

When did they first become aware of their need?

"Dude why are these questions so repetitive? I became aware of this need long ago but now that I am in college I'm about to invent a tracking system myself that's how strongly i need this"

How are they currently addressing their need?

"I use money sharing apps like venmo or zelle and just have people pay for me while I wait for a new card to come in the mail since my bank doesn't do temporary cards."

How satisfied are they with this solution?

"I don't really have any other option. I'd much rather have my card on me but I guess this works for the time being except for the fact that my friends love leaving gainesville all the time and sometimes I don't have anyone to pay for my stuff if none of my friends are in town. That's when I really starve."

5. Reflection: I learned from my interviews that this is a common problem among individuals. My other two interviews basically said the same things as my sister so I only added hers above. I interviewed my mother (43), My sister (19) and my roommate (22) and came to find that all of us would benefit from a card tracking system. No matter how old or responsible, A card is a flimsy piece of plastic. Its bound to get lost in cracks or left in bars. We're all human and with something that small with such a huge significance in our lives should be protected.

7. Summary:

How much of your original opportunity is still there?
It is 100% still there. I found that we all came to the agreement that this is a common problem and the need is very imperative
Do you believe that your new opportunity is more accurate than when you started?
I knew that is would be very beneficial for everyone so not really. I stand by my initial thought. I am now just more certain than ever that everyone can agree we lose our cards often and a tracker wouldn't be a bad idea in 2020.
How much do you think entrepreneurs should 'adapt' their opportunities based on customer feedback? (In other words, is there a trade-off between adapting and staying firm?)
Customer feedback is what keeps a company afloat. If buyers don't see an attraction to your product, you will get no sales and a company will end up failing. You must please the people at all times to thrive in today's market.

3A- MY ENTREPRENEURSHIP STORY

Growing up I always looked forward to going to take your child to work day with my dad. My dad owns a company called "The Hair Zone". The hair zone is a company that tailors to barbershops all around Florida. If you've gotten your hair cut at a barbershop, there is a 80% chance that they are using products that my dad sold to them. My dad's company is basically a hair supply shop on wheels. He travels through multiple cities a day distributing hair supplies 5 out of 7 days a week. I use to love going on runs with my dad because he sees so many people a day. I have always been super social and talkative so the fact that I got to see a good 50-100 faces a day and get to have conversations with each of them was always a lot more fun than visiting my moms office job in a law firm. I got to learn all the ropes of business. My dad's family use to own a barber supply shop in New york and in 2007, my dad took that business and put it on wheels to capitalize investment. My dad loves his job. He  has never once complained about his job and I admire it. He took an idea, made it his own if not made it better. I think that is the true definition of entrepreneurship.

I joined this class mostly because it was required of me tbh. And to be even more honest, I already took this class but I wasn't taking it seriously and ended up failing. Words to the wise, don't wait till last minute in this class..But honestly, I kinda enjoyed this class because it made me really think and it was a challenge as well. I plan to keep up with this class this time around. Take it slow and actually enjoy the ride.

2A- BUG LIST

1. My number one bug at the moment is people who do not wait for others inside the elevator to get out before walking in. R U D E !
-- why: Some people might be in a rush or they simply just didn't wait long enough for the door to open to clearly see others inside.

2.  When a shopping cart is left in the way of a parking spot and not placed back where it belongs.
--Why? People do this out of pure laziness. Maybe they were in a rush or maybe they just didn't feel like doing it but in return, someone else has to do it or they have to find a farther spot all because of one person's unwillingness to walk 10 ft.

3. Terrible Parking jobs
--Why? Again, out of pure laziness or unwillingness to do so, someone must find another spot because another person decided to take up 2 spots. Most times people realize they did this and just don't care enough to fix it, sad world.

4. People who use they "10 items or less" checkout line with clearly more than 10 items in their cart.
--Why? some people think "well im only a few over so why not?" They think it'll fly because no one will say something. And no one usually does. But people who use this line usually have way less than 10 items. It causes a huge back up for no reason at all.

5. Motorcyclist crazy driving. Everyone has bumper stickers saying "watch out for motorcycles" when in reality they need to watch out for me !
--Why? Motorcyclists believe because they can fit into spots that cars cant, that it is an automatic free for all. They zoom in and out of lanes so fast that you can barely see them. Its hazardous and someone could get seriously injured.

6. Students who cross the street on campus with zero regard to oncoming traffic. I get it, Pedestrians first. But that only applies on a cross walk!!
--Why? Students are in a constant rush to get to where they're going and don't feel the need to walk to the closest crosswalk to do so. I mean, I do it all the time. Still annoying when it gets done to you though.

7. 5pm Gainesville traffic. Traffic would not exist if you simply just drive.
--Why? Gainesville is overpopulated. People text and drive and dont pay attention to the road. Everyone is leaving work at the same time trying to go the same direction and with the lack of attention on the road, a 15 min trip turns into an hour if you're out anywhere between 4-6pm.

8. When grocery stores are out of a product. You literally had one job. To sell what i need.
--Why? someone messed up and didn't order enough. Or maybe everyone wanted the same item this week. Regardless, people go to the store for their everyday needs. Getting out of bed to buy something i needed and seeing it sold out is beyond frustrating.

9. When stores do not have my size in an item
--Why? similar to my last bug, maybe they didn't order enough or maybe alot of people wanted that item that week. Over stocking isn't hard and Idk why stores would rather have less than more but that is just me.

10. Roomates that leave their dirty dishes in the sink. This is a common area, act like it.
--Why? Maybe they had to go, maybe they were just lazy. Cleaning a dish takes just as long as it did to dirty it. Literally seconds. Its inconsiderate of others because someone (not the person who dirtied it) ends up cleaning it instead.

11.  People who drive less than 80mph in the fast lane. Its called the fast lane for a reason, move.
--Why? Maybe some people don't know about this unspoken rule, maybe the other lanes have slow drivers. Regardless of the excuse it is never okay. Move to the other lanes if you're not gonna go 80 or over.

12. Messed up food orders. Everyone makes mistakes but it is the job of the person working to ensure the meal is correct before giving it away. Everyone just assumes its right and leaves.
--Why? maybe it was busy or maybe they trusted the prep guy. People make mistakes but that's why you're suppose to check before handing it over. Takes two seconds to make sure everything is spot on.

13. Delayed package deliveries. If you're anything like me, I'm super last minute. The day my package is suppose to deliver, is usually the last possible day I can accept it. so when something arrives late, I'm screwed.
--Why? It wasn't shipped out when it was suppose to be or maybe their was a back up in shipment. but do not promise a day you cannot deliver. It brings false hope to the buyer and the might not do business with that company again. Everyone loses.

14. Losing your debit card. By now, you'd think we'd have trackers installed.
--Why? For most people, A debit card is the only form of money they carry on them. Its so small and super easy to misplace. Once you lose your card, you have to wait for a new one to come in and its just a really annoying process. We should have trackers or online cards.

15. People who blame their attitude on "Not having coffee yet" That is literally so stupid and makes zero sense.
--Why? People always look for someone or something to blame for their short comings. Most people will blame it on the fact that they hadn't had coffee yet for being sour to people. How about not blaming a drink and owning up to your own actions and attitude?

16. Over priced parking citations on campus
--Why? This is probably to stop people from parking where they shouldn't but it is really annoying that we have to pay for parking anyways. We pay a lot of money just to attend school so how are you gonna charge someone for parking their car to -- attend school...

17. Letting someone borrow something of yours, then they misplace it
--Why? when something does not belong to you, you tend not to care about it as much. However, it is extremely rude to be so careless with something that belongs to someone who was trying to do you  favor.

18. Closed roads. There are 12 hours in the day where people driving on the road is minimal, please use that time to dig up roads, thanks.
--Why? Maybe the job became to long and they did not have enough time to finish. Well now many people's everyday routes are effected and a lot of people will be late. Hire a team of enough people to get that done at night when no one is using those roads.

19. Paper straws. While companies are trying to save the planet, there's way better ways of doing it. Paper straws are flimsy, the fall apart and no one wants to drink out of soggy paper.
--Why? It is more environmentally friendly than plastic straws, but it is still a terrible idea overall.

20. Stores that do not offer grocery bags.
--Why? Some stores have hopped onto the environmentally friendly wave by completely cutting out their use of plastic. Awesome but can we have paper? I know this encourages people to bring their own reusable bag but its not like everyone just keeps those in the back of their pockets. Options would be nice.

This assignment was difficult in waves. I would go maybe 5 things that bugged me before I got extremely stumped. Then I'd have to think for about 30 minutes to come up with 5 more. I thought a lot of things bugged me in life but there's not many resolutions for somethings. My list is a list of things I feel like something could be done about at the end of the day.  Going into this, I thought it would be a super easy assignment, but once I sat down to start, I was glad I gave myself enough time before the due date or I would've been very stressed.

30A- Final Reflection

1. I knew what I was getting into from the very beginning of this course because I had already taken it a year before. When I took it the fi...
